  • My Blackberry Bold won’t turn on! / ブラックベリーの電源が入らない

    While I was in my parents’ house at Nishinomiya the battery of my Blackberry Bold I carried with me was too low to turn on the phone. Then after returning home at Tokyo I plugged the charger in it to recharge it, but it didn’t turn on even if I pressed the end (red) button of it.
    Solution: (1) Pull out the battery of the BB; (2) Plug the charger into the BB with its battery out; (3) If the LED turns red then put the battery into the BB again; (4) Wait until it restarts.

    実家にブラックベリーボールドを持って帰ったんですが、途中でバッテリーが切れてしまいました。東京に戻ってから充電器に差し込んでしばらく充電してから電源ボタン（赤い「切断」ボタン）を長押ししても、電源が入らなくなってしまいました。以後、どれだけ充電しても、電源が入りません。

    ネットで調べると、こういう事象があるらしく、解決策が書かれていました。
    （１）バッテリーを本体から外す。
    （２）バッテリーを外したまま、充電器を本体に差し込む。
    （３）本体のＬＥＤが赤く点灯したら、バッテリーを本体に入れる。
    （４）しばらくすると、電源が入り、本体が起動する。

  • Happy New Year 2010 / ２０１０年明けましておめでとうございます

    The new year has come. I sincerely hope His Majesty the Emperor and His Family will be more prosperous and this country will be more powerful.     新年が明けました。皇室の弥栄と皇国の隆昌を衷心よりお祈り申し上げます。国民すべてに幸福、よろこび、平安と恵みがありますように。日々生かされていることに感謝。

  • ２００９年を振り返って

    毎年、年末最後の日になるとその年のキーワードを振り返るんですが、今年はほとんどキーワードらしいことがありません。強いていえば「職場異動」（８月）と「ＭａｃＢｏｏｋ　Ｐｒｏ購入」（１０月）ぐらいでしょうか。去年の年末から数日しかたってないように思えるほどあっという間に今年の年末を迎えてしまいました。まさに「光陰矢の如し」といったところでしょう。
    ３０代後半になって、「オッサンになったなあ」と感じます。鏡で自分の顔を見ると数年前より老けているのが一目でわかります。年とともにオッサンらしくなり、それとともに女性からもだんだん相手にされなくなっていっているのがわかります。若い頃は、というより３０代前半までは、女性と気軽にお話できたほうなんですが、今は彼女らのほうが警戒してくるようになり、今じゃ電車の中で女性と目が合っただけでガン見される始末。もう「モテ期」（なんてものがあったかは疑問ですが）は終わりなんだなあと認めざるを得ないのかも。
    ２０１０年は、見た目に頼らない、内面からの魅力を増やし、オッサンになっても魅力的でいられるためにはどうすべきかを考えるのが課題かもしれません。

  • Looking back 2009

    I write this kind of entry on the last day of every year to look back what happened in each of the year, but I have much fewer things happening to me in the year 2009 than in any other year for my life. I feel as if only a few days had passed since I wrote this year’s first entry on the first day of this year. Although I make it a rule to list up the keywords of the year on every year-end day, I have not so much keywords for this year, except for the change of office in August and the purchase of MacBook Pro in October. Anyway, all what I think this year is “time flies like an arrow.”
    At the same time, I can’t help thinking how old I’ve grown, not only mentally but physically, being in the latter half of my thirties. Every time I look at my face in the mirror these days I find it looks like that of a middle-aged man, with the skin drier and rougher than I used to be.
    As being older year by year, I seem to be less attractive to ladies on the street or at office or online than ever. I could talk frankly to girls and please them without hesitation when I was younger, or until the former half of my thirties, but these days they show very cautious attitude to me when I try to talk to them. More than that, they sometimes glare at me with very offensive eyes when they see me on the street or on the train, though I did nothing bad to them. Perhaps I should admit that my day is already over and I’m no longer welcomed.
    What I need to do for 2010 would be to explore how to regain my attractiveness to ladies as much as I used to be; that is, how to be a REAL gentleman even if I turn older and look staler. It would be important to increase my internal attractiveness, not relying on my look. I will consider what I have to do for this.

  • Being a Mac’er again / またマッカーになりました

    I ordered to purchase MacBook Pro at Apple Store Japan for my new computer. I’ve kept a desktop PC running Windows XP for my personal use on a daily basis for almost eight years, but it’s being unstable these days due to low memory and hardware troubles occuring from time to time, so I needed a new computer.

    Actually, I used to have Powerbook running Mac OS 9 ten years ago. As Windows was being dominant for the business field, it was more convenient to use a Windows PC rather than a Macintosh for sharing data in the office with my house. However, security is now being so big concerns of office workers that most companies don’t let workers take data out of the office rooms. I no longer have an opportunity to see or edit at home any documents I use in the office, so I no longer have to use Windows to see them created by Windows PCs at office.

    It was also an option to wait for a new PC with Windows 7 to be released this month. But, if you buy a Mac as well as an HP printer at the same time at Apple Store Japan, you have a great deal of discount. That’s why I chose Mac this time, because my printer in my room was out of order as well.

    I want to use a computer, PC or Mac, with a US keyboard, because it’s easier for me to type texts with a keyboard of a US layout. In the past, IBM Japan released ThinkPad laptops with a US keyboard and English version Windows OS installed, but after Lenovo acquired IBM, there’s been no such PCs for sale any longer. If you live in Japan and want to have a US-keyboard PC, you’ll have to get an imported PC by accessing online or by going to a special PC store at Akihabara selling foreign PCs. However, one of the main problems with using an imported PC is that its wireless capabilities are not available within Japan because of a Japanese law issue. To activate wireless LAN or Bluetooth connections of a PC or a cell phone within Japan, the device must be certified by Japan’s national inspection facility. Because most PCs sold outside Japan are not certified, it’s forbidden to use the wireless functions of such PCs. (Of course it’s possible to use those functions in secret, but you must remember it’s ILLEGAL!)

    Macintosh these days has an option to be customized so that it has a US keyboard, no matter where you buy it. Plus, Mac OS X has a multilingual option so you can choose any language to display menus or input texts. It’s much easier to display English menus and input Japanese text at the same time.

    That’s why I bought a MacBook Pro.

    Although it was said, when I used Powerbook ten years ago, that Macintosh stood for “Machine Always Crashes, If Not, The Operating System Hangs,” the new MacBook Pro I’m using now is very stable. Wireless connection is very good. Key strokes are not bad. The only thing I have to keep in mind is to get used to the “Macintosh rules” —- to click, when you close a window, on its top left red button instead of clicking on the X button on the top right corner; to hit a [command] key and a space bar at the same time to begin Japanese input instead of hitting [Alt]+[`] keys; to select a menu on the top side of the screen windows, not under the title bar of the active window; etc. I’m still embarrassed by those differences because I haven’t been in touch with Macintosh for almost ten years, but I’m sure I’ll get accustomed with it. Anyway, my computer life is now much more fun!

    ＭａｃＢｏｏｋ　Ｐｒｏを買いました。

    今までＷｉｎｄｏｗｓ　ＸＰの自作ＰＣを８年近く使ってきたんですが、寄る年波に勝てず不安定になってきたようで、そろそろ新しいパソコンがほしいな〜と思っていたところです。

    実は１０年ぐらい前にＭａｃＯＳ９が動いていたＰｏｗｅｒｂｏｏｋを使っていたことがあったんですが、だんだんビジネスの分野でＷｉｎｄｏｗｓが支配的になってくるにつれ、家で仕事をするのにＷｉｎｄｏｗｓ　ＰＣのほうが便利になってきたんですが、最近セキュリティがやかましくなって会社のデータを家に持ち帰れなくなっているので、わざわざ会社に合わせて家でもＷｉｎｄｏｗｓにする必要もなくなってきたわけです。

    今月発売のＷｉｎｄｏｗｓ７を待つという手もあったんですが、今アップルストアでＭａｃを買って、一緒にＨＰのプリンタを買うとプリンタが値引きになるということもあり、プリンタも壊れていた今はＭａｃかな、と。

    私はパソコンを使うときはＵＳキーボードのものが打ちやすいので、これまでずっとＵＳキーボードを使ってきました。前はＩＢＭのＴｈｉｎｋＰａｄに英語ＯＳ、英語キーボードのモデルがあったんですが、レノボになってから英語版のＰＣが出なくなったので、日本にいながら英語版ＰＣを入手しようとしたら、ネット通販か秋葉原に行って輸入ＰＣを買うしかないわけなんですが、ここで問題があって、日本国内で無線ＬＡＮやＢｌｕｅｔｏｏｔｈを使おうとすると、国の技術基準適合証明を取らなければなりません。輸入ＰＣが日本の技適など取っているとは思えませんから、輸入ＰＣは日本で無線機能が使えないということになります（黙って使ってもいいんですが、一応違法行為になりますから。。。）。

    ということで、ＭａｃＢｏｏｋ　Ｐｒｏを買いました。

    １０年前にＰｏｗｅｒｂｏｏｋを使っていた頃は、Ｍａｃといえばすぐ落ちるで有名だったんですが、今使ってる新しいＭａｃＢｏｏｋ　Ｐｒｏは非常に安定しています。無線通信もＧＯＯＤ。キータッチも悪くありません。１つだけ気にかけるのは、いわゆる「Ｍａｃの流儀」に慣れること—-ウインドウを閉じるときは右上のバッテンではなく左上の赤丸ボタンをクリックするとか、日本語入力に切り替えるときはＡｌｔ＋｀ではなくＣｏｍｍａｎｄ＋スペースを押すとか、メニューは画面の上から選ぶとか。１０年Ｍａｃとごぶさただとまだごっちゃになったりしますが、まあすぐ慣れることでしょう。ともあれ、私のコンピュータライフは格段に楽しくなりました！

    今さらという感もしないでもないですが、ボーナスが出たので買っちゃいました。何もオプションも縛りもつけず、７３０００円定価一括払い。

  • I’ve got Blackberry Bold!

    Maybe it’s a bit late to be excited to have Blackberry Bold now, but anyway I’ve got one because I had a bonus this week. I ordered it online and this morning a courier delivered it to my house.

    These are a cradle, a charger, USB cables and screen protectors I ordered from Hong Kong before hand.

    I pulled my SIM card off my Blackberry 8707h I kept so far, put it into the Blackberry Bold and turned its power switch on. After several initial setups, the main menu appeared and NTT DoCoMo network was captured.
    One problem occured. I found there was no email settings so I couldn’t set up emails I had used on 8707h. According to manuals, it was necessary to log in to Blackberry’s website at blackberry.com to change PIN and IMEI into ones of the Blackberry Bold, as well as to send a service book to the new device. Doing so, three email icons according to the email accounts I’d used so far appeared on the Blackberry Bold’s screen.
    I configured its WiFi settings so that I can use it over the wireless LAN in my room, and set up Bluetooth so as to send files to my Nokia smartphones. I installed Google Sync into it to synchronize contacts into Gmail’s ones. Other than them, I installed twitterberry, a news reader and other utilities to make it more convenient when commuting to and from office.

    Now the setups are almost complete, except for one problem with USB connection to my PC. I installed Blackberry Desktop Manager on my PC running Windows XP and connected my Blackberry Bold to it with a USB cable, but nothing was detected. When I connect my 8707h with the same USB cable to the PC, it can be normally detected. Why? Windows XP problem? Or problems with settings of the Blackberry Bold? Please tell me why if you have any idea.

    10年以上も続けているHIMEMIKO*WEBというサイトですが、昔はHTMLを手打ちで書いたりAdobe GoLiveなどのいわゆる「ホームページ作成ソフト」を使って作っていたんですが、ここ5年ほどはMovable Typeを使って構築しています。これを使うと家にいなくてもどこにいても気軽に更新できるので非常に便利なんですが、これはもともとはブログを作るツールなので、おもに固定的な情報を提供するのが目的で、最新情報を定期的に更新するわけではないHIMEMIKO*WEBのようなサイトの場合、ちょっと違和感があるんですね。

    クルマを買ったり売ったり、家を引っ越したりでここ数年PC関係におカネが廻らず、すっかり旧式の環境になってしまった家のPC関係をここ数ヶ月ほどかけてアップグレードしています。
